Sam Taylor BIO

Sam Taylor is a dynamic drummer who has toured extensively for the past 30 years, performing with some of Canada’s finest talents and biggest names in music.

Breaking into the business at an early age, Sam honed his skills as a gentleman, and a professional drummer with Hall of Fame Inductee, and International Star, Dick Damron who took him on the road, across North America for twenty years. Sam’s experiences range from the first Canadian band to perform during the NFR in Vegas, to the biggest country musical festivals across Canada. Being on the road, with Dick Damron, Canada’s top country entertainer and male vocalist during the mid 80’s, gave Sam a solid footing as one of the best drummers in country music. As Dick slowed his performance schedule down, touring less and writing more, Sam Taylor formed his own band, Stoney Creek, which became the choice band in Western Canada to back touring artists.

Stoney Creek toured with Joan Kennedy, an award winning Canadian Country Artist, and backed numerous US acts on tour, including, David Houston, Michael Martin Murphy, Tommy Rowe and Johnny Tillotson.

Over the years, Sam has been engaged by Hall of Famer, Ronnie Prophet, Farmers Daughter at the Calgary Stampede when they first started, and Lisa Brokop when she performed a showcase at the CCMA’s. Sam has also had the honor of performing overseas for our troops in Bosnia and Afghanistan.

Sam Taylor is still on the top of his game, as a freelance drummer, and concert producer. In 2009, Sam performed and produced the Tribute Concert for Dick Damron, to celebrate his 51 years contribution to country music. The 2 hour concert, brought together on one stage, Hall of Fame Inductee’s, Juno Award winners and International Stars – Charley Pride, George Hamilton IV, Ronnie & Glory Anne Prophet, Carroll Baker, Gary Fjellgaard, The Good Brothers, Joan Kennedy, Michelle Wright, Julian Austin, Patricia Conroy and Beverley Mahood. Sam was honored to play drums for all these artists on such a memorable night.

Sam tours consistently with Canadian country star, Julian Austin, in top venues across the country, television appearances, and video shoots for CMT. As well, Sam supports upcoming recording artists, both as a drummer and road manager, when his time allows.
